Removal Of Peat Water Color With A Hybrid Coagulation-Ultrafiltration Process Using A Combined Coagulant Of Peat Clay And Alum
Abstract
Peat water is groundwater or surface water characterized by low pH and high color intensity. Cellulose acetate ultrafiltration membrane technology can increase the removal percentage of color in peat water, but fouling during filtration can clog
membrane pores, limiting treatment efficiency. Therefore, coagulation pre-treatment using a combined coagulant of TLG and Alum can improve removal percentages and minimize fouling. The removal percentage of color using hybrid coagulation with
cellulose acetate ultrafiltration membrane increases at an optimum pressure of 3 bar and optimum combined coagulant dose of TLG 2 g/L + Alum 0.15 g/L, achieving 96,63% in color, with a flux of 198,90 L/hour·m²·bar. The best fouling model corresponds to the saturation curve. Hybrid coagulation using combined TLG and Alum coagulants with cellulose acetate ultrafiltration membrane is an effective method for treating peat water and reducing fouling on the membrane.
