Abstract

This study evaluates the performance of the low-cost optical sensor (LCOS) PMS7003 for long-term ambient PM2.5 monitoring in Bandung, Indonesia. Over 733 days of observation, 160,931 valid measurements were collected, yielding a data recovery rate of 76.24%. Sensor variability, precision, accuracy, linearity, and stability were analyzed in reference to the US EPA protocol and previous international studies. Field colocation with a Dichotomous Sampler (U.S. EPA Reference Method) revealed an auxiliary correction factor of 1.6623, producing a recalibration model for LCOS measurements. Although PMS7003 demonstrated high sensitivity, substantial overestimation and non-linearity were observed at concentrations below 10 µg/m³. Comparative evaluations across two monitoring locations further highlighted the effect of micro-environmental and elevation differences on PM2.5 concentrations. Findings confirm that PMS7003 can be used for indicative monitoring with appropriate recalibration, especially in regions lacking reference-grade instruments
